For day 11 I’m posting an image for the assignment ‘A Pop of Colour’ from my first experiment with painting with light. I was a bit dubious about doing this as it never really appealed to me but decided to give it a go as a friend had done it a few times so went out with him to see what he had learned and got to admit, I had a lot of fun.
My idea here was to have the old ruined chapel the warmer red colour with the cross and the doorway the cooler, brighter blue colour to draw the viewer in and contrasted against the darker background.
Off the top of my head I think these were 2 minute exposures using small torches with gel filter to colour the light to paint the subjects.
Love it, that’s an awesome effect.

This was a fun idea for this assignment. I’ve seen several “pop of colour” posts this morning but this is my favourite so far. Well done. 😊

Thank you, it was fun doing it and certainly pens up more opportunities when I run out of ideas 🙂

Just a filter over the torches to colour the light. Very basic setup, a head torch and flash light with coloured gels wrapped around them.

If you can set manual exposure you can still do it, think bridge camera’s only go up to 30 seconds though but I may be wrong, nothing to do with the lens to be honest, give it a go.
